Your
Custom Design Shotover Jet
Unlike
a conventional craft, a jet boat utilizes an internal propeller(impeller)
to provide propulsion. Water is drawn in through an inlet in the
bottom of the boat, then driven out through a nozzle at the rear
with great force. Turning is accomplished by moving the nozzle
laterally. Braking and reverse are achieved by using a deflector
similar to the reverse thrust bucket on a jet aircraft. The Shotover
Jet drive style is unique and guaranteed to thrill with a
combination of speed and amazing maneuverability. The highlight
is the world-renowned spectacular Shotover Jet 360º turn
as the boat spins around in its own length.
The emphasis on board the boat is definitely on safety and, in
26 years of operation, the company maintains an impeccable safety
record.
Safety
& Confort
- Constructed
of heavy gauge marine alumiium, the hulls are designed for
maximum strength and manoeuvrability.

Power is provided by a highly modified 502 cubic inch(8.1
liter) Chevrolet v8 engine which generates 320 hp.
- The
unique tiered seating arrangement allows each of the 12 passengers
the same uninterrupted view.
- Your
jet boat has been designed and built to the company's exacting
specifications.
- Boats
are 4.5 meters long and 2.24 meters wide. The Hamilton jet
unit thrusts 400 liters of water a second to propel these
unique, highly maneuvrable craft which skim the river bed
at 70 kmph in just 10 centimeters or 4 inches of water.!
- The
Shotover Jet Acapulco fleet will initially comprise 3
custom-designed 'Big Red' jet boats powered by liquid petroleum
gas (LPG), affording the best in environmental river protection.
The
History
- The
Jet boat was born on the swift, shallow, snow-fed rivers of
the South Island of New Zealand by CWF(Bill) Hamilton. His
prototype in the early 1950s proved a highly practical alternative
to the conventional ,outboard propulsion systems which were
easily damaged on the shallow shingle river beds and no match
for the fast flowing currents.
- Acknowledged
as the "father" of the modern jet boat, his revolutionary
system used an internal propeller (impeller) to suck water
through a chamber then force it out via a moveable nozzle
to provide exceptionally powerful propulsion and incredible
maneuverability.
- First
in the world to develop technology to convert engines from
gasoline to liquid propane gasoline (LPG) which has been a
major influence in adding to passenger and environmental safety.

air-conditioned coach transfers will depart from our Acapulco
Station located on Av.Costera Miguel Aleman # 121, Hotel Continental
Plaza local #30, and take you along the magnificent "Autopista
del Sol" highway to our river base in Puente Viejo, Rio Papagayo.
Allow approximately 2 ½ hours for transfers, jet boat ride and
adequate time to enjoy amenities and restaurant.
