Leisure
Cozumel rests on
top of age-old structures of the Mayan coral reef, the second
largest in the world. Amongst many attractions Cozumel features
incredible weather, ancient Mayan ruins, exotic jungles, and
legendary sunsets.
Cozumel boasts some of the best natural environments just
steps away from the resort.
Due to its proximity
to the National Marine Park, Chankanaab offers the only inland
coral reef formation in the world. The park is home to the
world-renowned ecosystem and natural aquarium, the lagoon,
with more than 60 species of tropical fish, crustaceans and
corals as well as a botanical garden, home of the most diverse
species of tropical plants and exotic birds.
Our tour leads
us to the south of the Island, at Punta Sur, an ecological
park and nature reserve, a breathtaking environment of mangrove
jungles, white sand beaches and reef formations. The park
harbors a varied wildlife, including crocodiles, birds, iguanas,
and giant turtles. Among the park's most interesting structures
is an old lighthouse, a navigation museum and El Caracol,
a well-preserved ancient structure used by the Mayas to signal
approaching boats of the presence of Coral reefs.
Driving onwards through the solitary tropical rainforest,
we reach the east coast, where during some periods at nightfall
it is possible to live one of the most marvelous occurrences
of Nature: the giant turtles coming to shore to lay their
eggs.
The day is over, and we are ready to return to the Resort,
accompanied by the sound of the waves crashing into the marine
rocks, and get ready for our next tour, the history of Cozumel
and Mayan culture.
Golf aficionados
can enjoy world-class golf at the Cozumel Country Club, one
of the most spectacular golf courses in the Caribbean. The
18-hole course was designed by the Nicklaus Design Group,
influenced by the Mayan jungle. The golf course is a masterpiece
