The internationally acclaimed Museum of Anthropology. You cannot visit Mexico City and miss the Museum considered the finest archaeological museum in the world, with collections spanning 30 centuries of Mexican history, from the earliest civilizations to the present day. Plan on spending at least a full day here. Exhibit highlights include enormous stone Olmecheads found in the tropics of Veracruz, the famous Aztec calendar stone, precious hand-crafted gold pieces given as offerings to the gods, and ceremonial obsidian sculptures and knives. The second floor displays a variety of scenes from rural Mexican life. English guides are available. The museum is open from 9am to 7pm on Tuesday through Saturday, and from 10am to 6pm on Sundays and holidays. It is closed on Mondays.
