North of the state of Quintana Roo, in the municipality of Benito Juárez

The Dr. Alfredo Barrera Marin Botanical Garden, is located north of the state of Quintana Roo, in the municipality of Benito Juárez, inside the tourist corridor Cancun-Tulúm. The Barrera Marin Botanical Garden protects over 60 acres of jungles and marshland vegetation . Sites of interest range from a post-Classic Mayan ruin to a replica of a chicle harvesters camp . There are areas devoted to wild orchids , bromeliads, cacti, agaves and medicinal plants and nursery of native species, examples of traditional Mayan housing and lookout tower for sweeping views of the area. The Botanical Garden is also an important refuge for the wild life especially avifauna, for this reason, it's not uncommon to observe spider monkeys, iguanas, foxes, agouti and a great variety of migratory and resident birds. Though the park doesn't open until 9 am, caretakers will let birders in at dawn. Insect repellent is de rigeur.l unknown.
